Privacy Policy

Last updated . Applies to Cybee's List version 3.0.1 and later, and to this website.

The short version

  • I don't collect your data. Your lists are stored on your iPhone, not on my servers. I don't have any servers for the app.
  • No account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking. Nothing is sold or shared with advertisers.
  • A few features use the internet, and you choose whether to use them: sharing a list, iCloud backup, currency rates and barcode lookup. Each is explained below.

Who is responsible

Cybee's List is made and published by Stephen A. Dantes, an independent developer. Questions about this policy go to stephendantes@gmail.com.

What stays on your iPhone

Everything you enter is saved in the app's database on your iPhone. That includes shopping lists, prices, tasks, notes, reminders, budgets, income and expenses, trackers, savings plans, imported bank statements, scanned products and the shop names the app learns. I can't see any of it, and it isn't sent anywhere unless you use one of the features below.

Deleting a list deletes it from your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes all of its data from your iPhone.

Features that use the internet

Sharing a list

When you share a list, that list and its items are stored in your iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit, so the people you invite can see it. Lists you don't share are never sent. To invite someone you pick them from your contacts. The app reads only the phone number or email address of the person you pick, and Apple uses it to find their iCloud account. The people on a shared list see your name as it appears in your iCloud account, and you see theirs.

You choose whether people can edit a list or only view it, and you can stop sharing at any time. iCloud is run by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. I have no access to shared lists.

iCloud Drive backup

If you back up from Settings, a copy of the app's database is saved to your own iCloud Drive in a folder called Cybee's List. Only you, and the devices signed in to your Apple Account, can open it. You can delete backups in the Files app at any time.

Currency rates

The currency converter on the shopping item screen downloads exchange rates from ExchangeRate-API (open.er-api.com), at most twice a day. The request contains only the currency code, such as USD. As with any web request, that service can see your IP address. The rates are saved so the converter works offline.

Barcode lookup (off unless you turn it on)

Products you scan are remembered on your iPhone. If you turn on "Look Up New Barcodes Online" in Settings, a barcode the app hasn't seen before is looked up on Open Food Facts. Only the barcode number is sent, and that service can see your IP address.

Permissions the app asks for

Camera
Scans barcodes, price tags and receipts, and can take a photo for a savings plan. Text and barcodes are read on your iPhone by Apple's Vision technology. Camera images aren't saved or sent anywhere.
Photos
Lets you pick a photo as a savings plan's icon. Only the photo you pick is used, and it is saved in the app on your iPhone.
Face ID or passcode
Used only if you turn on Lock Budgets & Savings. iOS checks your face or passcode and tells the app only whether it matched. The app never receives your face data.
Notifications
Delivers reminders you set on to-do tasks. Reminders are scheduled on your iPhone.
Contacts
Opens Apple's contact picker when you invite someone to a shared list. The app sees only the contact you pick, and only while sending the invitation.

You can change any of these in the iPhone's Settings app. Features that need a permission you turn off simply won't work, and the rest of the app carries on.

When you contact me

Send Feedback in the app opens an email in your Mail app. It is filled in with your device model, iOS version and app version to help me fix problems, and you can remove those lines before sending. If you email me, I receive your email address and your message. I use them only to reply, and I don't add you to any mailing list.

Information Apple provides

If you agree to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone settings, Apple may give me anonymous crash reports and usage totals for the app. These don't identify you. Downloads, purchases and ratings are handled by the App Store under Apple's privacy policy.

Children

Cybee's List is rated 4+ and doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.

This website

This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no third-party services; the fonts and images are served from this site. Like most web servers, the hosting server keeps standard access logs, including IP address, browser type and the pages requested, for security and troubleshooting. These logs aren't used to identify you.

Your choices

Because I don't hold any of your data, there is nothing for me to access, correct or delete on your behalf. If you have a question about your data, email me and I'll help.

Changes to this policy

If a future version of the app handles information differently, I'll update this page and the date at the top before that version is released.
